There was once a time when Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8 was one of the most sought-after cards in the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME. A 3000 ATK Dragon that negates and destroys all Spell Cards was unprecedented. In a time when Duelists relied extensively on incredibly powerful Spell Cards, Horus?s power allowed Duelists to lock up a victory as soon as it hit the field.
Realizing its power, many Duelists built Decks around Horus. The main goal was to upgrade Horus from LV4 to LV8. Fortunately, reaching Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8 was a breeze.
Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV4 has 1600 ATK and just needs to destroy a monster to trade itself in for Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV6 at the End Phase. Destroying a monster with Horus LV4 was easy, especially with help from cards like Book of Moon and Enemy Controller that make it easier to destroy an opponent?s monster in battle. The fact that an opponent couldn?t take control of Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV4 with Enemy Controller or Snatch Steal was just a bonus.
Like Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV4, Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV6 also just needs to destroy a monster for it to upgrade to the next Level. But Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV6 has 2300 ATK and is unaffected by Spell Cards. That makes it even easier to destroy a monster with Horus LV6 than with Horus LV4! Duelists looking for a shortcut used the Level Up! Spell Card to upgrade Horus to its next Level in an instant.
Some Duelists were so impressed by Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV6 when it was released, that they decided they didn?t even need its final form in their Decks! A monster with 2300 ATK that was immune to Spell Cards and could be Tribute Summoned made the cut in lots of Duelists? Decks, even if those Decks didn?t aim to Summon Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8.
Most Decks built around Horus used also Jinzo or Royal Decree in them. While Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8 negates all Spell Cards, Jinzo and Royal Decree negate all Traps. By getting Horus LV8 on the field with either Jinzo or Decree, a Duelist was able to severely limit his opponent?s options.
